Tell us a little about your business, what you do, where you’re based, and who you help
Cowes Gallery and QMR Menswear are based at 75 High Street, Cowes, right at the centre of this beloved Island town. Cowes Gallery is a celebration of art, specialising in British and Aboriginal art and showcasing a beautiful mix of paintings, sculpture, and glass; all within a welcoming, elegant atmosphere that makes every visit a pleasure. It champions both local Island artists and talented creatives from across the country, and is a place where art lovers can truly discover something special.
The gallery also has a presence beyond the Island, with AA London Gallery at 24 Devonshire Road, London W4 2HD — connecting Island creativity with a wider audience and bringing the same distinctive warmth and vision to the capital.
QMR Menswear, meanwhile, brings style and quality to the Cowes high street, offering a carefully curated menswear collection for those who appreciate great fashion.
Why did you choose to sponsor a month in our calendar?
The answer is a simple and heartfelt one: “I wanted to support this charity, and who doesn’t love a red squirrel!”
And honestly? We couldn’t agree more. That kind of warm, generous spirit is exactly what makes sponsors like Hugo and his businesses so special to us.
What does supporting local wildlife or conservation mean to you or your business?
“The red squirrel is so loved by so many.”
Those few words speak volumes. The red squirrel holds a very special place in the hearts of Islanders and visitors alike, and knowing that local businesses feel that connection too means the world to our Trust. Every act of support, however big or small, helps us protect these precious animals for generations to come.
What is your favourite thing about red squirrels or the Island’s natural environment, and why?
There is something truly magical about a chance encounter with a red squirrel, and Hugo puts it perfectly, he loves “seeing them popping in the garden or when going for a walk around the Island spotting them.”
That moment of delight, catching a flash of russet fur darting through the trees or pausing just long enough to look back at you, it’s one of the Island’s greatest gifts, and one we are working hard to protect.
Why do you feel it’s important to support local charities or community projects?
“We all have to do our bit to make a difference.”
Simple, honest, and exactly right. It is this attitude; that each of us has a role to play; that builds strong, caring communities. We are so grateful that Hugo is doing his bit, and doing it with such generosity.
What’s coming up for your business in the year ahead?
There is so much to look forward to from both businesses! Cowes Gallery will continue to celebrate and support local artists alongside creatives from around the country, and excitingly a brand new collection of Aboriginal Art is coming to Cowes. This promises to be a truly wonderful reason to visit and explore.
