Win a Place on a Secret Squirrel Woodland Tour! 🐿️
Ever wondered what goes on behind the gate of a private red squirrel woodland? Here’s your chance to find out.
To celebrate Red Squirrel Awareness Week (5th to 11th October), we’re opening up Howes Wood, our private woodland that’s not normally open to the public, to 15 lucky winners for a guided afternoon tour.
What’s the plan?
On Thursday 8th October at 2pm, our winners will head into Howes Wood with a guide to discover the habitat our red squirrels rely on, hear all about the Trust’s work to protect them, and, if the squirrels are feeling sociable, perhaps even spot a few of the wood’s residents going about their business. (We can’t promise they’ll pose for photos, but they have been known to show off.)
How do I enter?
It couldn’t be easier, and it’s completely free. Just fill in our short online form:
Entries close at midnight on Sunday 4th October, so don’t hang about! We’ll draw 15 winners at random at 11am on Monday 5th October and contact them by email with all the details.
Good to know
- Who can come? Everyone’s welcome to enter, but under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
- What’s the ground like? It’s a real woodland, so expect uneven terrain and wear sturdy footwear. We don’t yet have a full network of wheelchair-friendly paths (it’s something we’re working on), so do bear this in mind when entering.
- Where is it? Howes Wood is private, so we’ll share the exact location with our winners when we let them know they’ve won. (However, we can tell you that it is on the outskirts of Ryde.)
Why now?
As our Chairman, Nicholas Gurney-Champion, puts it: “Howes Wood is a really special place, and we don’t often get the chance to share it. Red Squirrel Awareness Week felt like the perfect moment to open it up and let people see first-hand the habitat that our red squirrels depend on.”
