A Wonderful Red Squirrel Awareness Week at Howes Wood 🌳🐿️

6 – 12 October 2025 was a fantastic success for our Red Squirrel Awareness Week events at Howes Wood!

Over 50 people joined us across the week to explore the woodland, learn about red squirrels, and discover the exciting work taking place to protect their precious habitat.

Despite being busy hosting, chatting, and leading woodland walks, we managed to capture a few snapshots that show just how much everyone enjoyed being part of this special event.

From fascinating fungi finds to friendly conversations under the gazebo, the week was filled with enthusiasm, learning, and a real sense of community.

A Warm Welcome in the Woods

Visitors were greeted by our friendly volunteers under the forest gazebo, which stayed up all week thanks to the glorious autumn weather.

Posters, tables, and chairs created a woodland hub for tea, cake, and conversation — a place to share ideas and support for our ongoing conservation efforts.

Many guests commented on how impressed they were with the woodland management work already completed at Howes Wood, and we were delighted to receive offers of volunteer time and donated materials to help us continue improving the site for wildlife.

Exploring Nature’s Details

Between woodland tours and talks, attendees enjoyed spotting some of Howes Wood’s hidden treasures — including striking fungi, bright berries, and the rich autumn colours that make this season such a magical time to visit.

These photos capture just a glimpse of the biodiversity that red squirrels depend on, and which we’re working hard to protect.
